About the New Art Centre
The Art Centre in Chatham
Opened in June 2002, the NAC is the first centre of it’s kind in Kent. It was founded by the Halpern Charitable Foundation to give local artists a chance to develop and display their work.
In addition to providing studio space we offer a varied programme of educational workshops and special events, a diverse range of exhibitions in our gallery and we are home to Chatham’s most distinctive café.
The NAC is constantly evolving and building on its successes. The profile of the centre within the Arts and wider community continues to rise as people discover our oasis of creativity. It is our mission to become a flagship in the cultural regeneration of the Medway Towns.

Our Artists
Foremost among our assets are the hive of small creative businesses that operate out of the centre. Many of our artists are making quite an impact in their chosen fields exhibiting in such places as the Royal Academy of Arts, the Chelsea Flower Show and London’s Design Festival and Fashion Week. Others have a slew of awards under their belts and work to commission for local, national and International clients.
If you are looking to commission artwork of any kind please take a moment to browse our Online Gallery to see the wealth of talent we have in our community. At any given time we have representatives from all the major creative industries within our complex: painters, photographers, sculptors, ceramicists, print-makers, fashion designers, graphic designers, illustrators and conceptual artists.
If you would like any further information about the centre, our artists and our facilities please don’t hesitate to contact us. We hope you enjoy browsing our site and we look forward to seeing you soon at the Centre!
