Event Dynasty, Evolution, Birds And Parasites - Paul Mercer Description
Date
Time
1-9-08 to 6-9-08
10:00am to 5:30pm
In his latest show Paul Mercer has created an alternative vision of the Medway Towns.

With homage to the author H.P. Lovecraft, the landscape has been repopulated by strange creatures which lurk beneath uneasy skies. In this place evolution has taken a different path, and a new dynasty has control over the Earth.

Paul combines the images of a decayed city with its crumbling theatres and rotting barges, with montages of fantastical creatures and their fictional history.

Paul also introduces the photographs of Naz Sayers as a guest artist.

Event Indian Pink - Wendy Smith Description
Date
Time
19-9-08 to 3-10-08
10:00am to 5:00pm
‘Indian Pink’ comprises of paintings and photographs inspired and produced by Wendy Smith as Artist in Residence at Sanskriti Foundation, an international art centre in New Delhi. The work is a direct response to the artist’s distilled observations of street life in India combined with outside and inside spaces recorded through photography and drawing.

Photography plays an important role in recording a perfect scene or ‘happening’. The artist then translates scenarios into paint on canvas, creating an ongoing dialogue between the two mediums. The canvases are sumptuous in colour representing the emotional response of the moment and linear marks conjure up the sense of place.

The six month project concluded with a month in Nepal exploring aspects of traditional weaving methods and how they could be incorporated within contemporary design. Part of this exhibition will include a textile installation inspired from this journey.

Project funded by Arts Council England.
